    Ticket question

Was at a mall the other day where a car was just sitting in the road doing nothing. I was taking my mom to eye doc as she has very bad eyes. We were sitting a a single yellow line in front of a store was I was tired of waiting so I went around the car sitting there. Low and behold a cop was in the otherside lane coming my wy way and pulled me over. He asked how I was doing and where was I going. I said I was late taking my mom to the eye doc and asked for my license and i gave it to him. He comes back 15 mins later and gives me a ticket for $106. What is the rule of crossing 1 yellow line lane at a mall. Would you guys fight this with the result being on my side. This was the end of the month and we all know cops need to get in there allotted number of tickets for the month.

    Your thoughts?

    thx

I wasn't aware he could pull you over on private property to begin with.

    A) No one knows what the answer is.
    B) SG gets a fraction of the traffic it used to.

Don't know all the facts from here.
Can't see the road, the conditions, the traffic, can't see signs on the side of the road which would influence a decision, didn't see other oncoming traffic, public road or actual mall parking lot property,

I'd have talked to the officer at the time of receiving the ticket. There's no better time than that for getting an explanation.

    A) agreed..
    B) We get about the same traffic, just more on the main site and a lot less on the forums since everyone went "social"..

    About lines:
Double yellow line: you can't cross it, it supposedly represents a "raised median" or a barrier.
Single white/yellow line: you can make a left turn, but you can not pass across it.

You can probably argue in court that another vehicle was blocking the road, that you were in a parking lot, etc. etc. .. But basically, if the police officer does not show up you will get it dismissed (or get off with court-appointed school and no points), if he shows up it's likely you wont. Sometimes it is worth to pay lawyers that specialize in those types of tickets (cheap ones are $100-200 and you don't have to attend court), but it doesn't seem to be worth it for a $106 ticket. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I'd go to court and talk to the judge. Most judges will explain the law (or the reason for the ticket) in a constructive manner. Be respectful.

I always thought(at least in Cal) that you can't cross a solid single or double yellow line.

Google has a lot on the subject. Specify the state you live in.
I live in the state of confusion. Google was no help at all.
