Please Help! Windows Vista Won't Log Into Admin Account

I was in my personal admin account yesterday. I was surfing the web and listening to an audio conference call. The screen turned white but the audio kept running. I tried to control alt delete to end the task thinking it may have locked up. It would pull up the menu and when I clicked on task manager it would never open the task manager. Then I restarted windows thinking that would fix the problem. When I went to log into my account it logged in, pulled up my desktop for maybe 5 seconds and then it flashed back to a white screen. I tried booting into safe mode its bsod-ing. I am able to log into my wife's user account. I went into her account and went to my C drive where the copy of Windows is located and I did a virus scan and a Malware scan. The Malware came back with nothing. The virus scan came back with a Trojan that I quarrantined and deleted. I restarted, tried to log back into my admin account. It logged in, loads my desktop, and then about 5 seconds later goes back to a white screen. I restarted logged into my wife's account and it worked fine. Does anyone have any suggestions other than a clean install?

Create a new user account for yourself, move your documents etc over, then delete the old not working one. Running the system file checker, sfc /scannow might fix the BSOD problem. It almost sounds like a ransom ware infection I worked on a while ago. instead of your desktop you got a fake screen saying you were doing something illegal on your PC and had to pay a fine to get access again. I did an offline scan which only got some of the nasty's. On the next boot all I got was a white screen. Couldn't launch task manager either. After another scan with Windows Defender Stand Alone I was able to get back in and recover her files. I ended up nuking her install and doing a clean install just to be sure it was clean. That PC only had the one user account on it. I'm not 100% sure your in the same situation but the symptoms are similar.
I don't know the same things you don't know.

    Check for a rootkit (tdsskiller)
Examine user profile directory....root of it, app data, and temp...and sort by date/time..look for weird named file with time/data stamp of the infection.
System restore to time prior to infection
Run a few more good antimalware apps.

Thanks for the replies. I turned off system restore..lol won't make that mistake again. I didn't trust it after all that so I did a clean install. I feel better now :-)

A clean install is my preference when I think a PC is badly infected. I don't like giving a PC back to someone wondering if I really got it all.
