any ideas on how I can get a large speaker shipped ?

there is a guy that has a Paradigm CC-390 that I want(it's a huge center channel speaker for a home theater),it's 70 pounds & 39x8x15" & he won't ship(does not have the box),he says "local pickup only" in New York state,(I live in California)
does anyone have any ideas on how to get it shipped to me safely to arrive in good condition & not spend an arm & a leg ?

is there companies that do that for a reasonable price ?

Closest I can think of would be FedEx Smart Post. Cheapest shipping I know of but not sure if there's a weight/dimension limit.

Picked up by FedEx but shipped via USPS on whatever spare room they have, eventually delivered by USPS. Cheaper than FedEx or UPS or USPS but can take much longer.

    And Paradigm....yummy!!!

I picked up a pair of Export Monitors on CL several months ago and love them. Currently my fronts in my HT. I would love to get something similar to use as my center.

With typos like that on their home page they look like a bunch of high school drop-outs.
I assume you've had good results with them but, personally, I'd never trust a shipment with a business with a page like that.

    Just me though.

I have been hanging out at an audio forum and The Pony Express is always recommended for situations like this. I have not personally used them before but only linked to it based on what the forum members at AK have recommended in the past. I actually didn't read through the website to much but would certainly understand your hesitation.

Edit: After looking at the 'Contact us' section and seeing an AOL email, I might hesitate using them as well

I shipped a 2foot by 3 foot budwieser mirror through UPS. They packaged it and got it there safe.

Dan, have you seen that show on TV called "Shipping Wars"? It's focused on some guys that pickup jobs from an online bidding service called UShip.
    http://www.uship.com/
Lots of private transport/shipping guys bid on a job you post.
The site is legit and has been around since before that TV show hyped it up...give it a shot if you purchase it.

That location is up by Niagara Falls....closest SpeedGuide member I know that lives there is TWW....but he's probably 2 hours east of that (top of New York...is HUGE!). I drove through that area last year.
