    Non-suck lappy with native DB25 port.

    I'll admit, kind of a contradictive post title. Long story short a guy at work asked me to "recommend" a laptop (for personal purposes) with a parallel port. Reason being he runs CAM software with a hardware authentication key.

    Key point: add-on DB25 cards (PCI, PCMCIA, Express, etc) have not been made to work up to this point. Or, at least I can say from personal experience using an add-on host adapter on desktop/laptop systems fails authentication. The reason is beyond my realm of expertice. Native controllers have never been a problem.

    I've told him I would have a hard time making an honest recommendation for a platform that old but he doesn't care, meaning he just wants the fastest laptop with that port built in. A couple years ago I thad him buy a Toughbook CF-25 which he loves but says it's too heavy/bulky for travel now.

    Any ideas? Used/refurb is not an issue.

    Cheers, all.

    I have an Inspiron 2650 with a parallel port. 512MB ram limit, though.

    David;

    That's very kind of you to make the offer. I will check the minimum system requirements. Very gracious of you and very much appreciated!

    Brian;

    Good call. Wasn't expecting there to be anything from a manufacturer. I'll take a gander at the Lenovo Outlet. I appreciate the model recommendations!

    A lot of older technical type programs will not work like that, needs native. CAM and Danfoss are 2 good examples...

    Scott, chat with lenovo outlet, a pop up will open immediately on their site. Check hourly and be ready to pull the trigger though, high turn over...
