    Angry Latency with Cable (@Home)

Forgive me if I sound like a bit of a novice, but I have read that my @Home service has built-in latency on games. I do notice this a lot when I am playing online. My pings are just stupendous, but there is just a tiny little lag, enough that by the time I see someone come around a corner in Rogue Spear, for example, they have already shot me. Any ideas on how to reduce the actual latency?

    Iceberg30,
I have had @home service for about 3 months now. My ping times can vary wildly, but it seems like it depends more on what game I'm playing as to how the response is. I've never been able to play Rainbow Six with any degree of reliability, both dialup or broadband. I know my hardware isn't the issue becuase single player is incredibly smooth. I also play Asheron's Call and that is actually very good, considering it's hosted on the Zone and that can have it's share of problems. In addition, I play Tribes, and while this isn't a terribly complex game, it requires a fair amount of bandwidth to play smoothly and that also works well. Try a few different games and see if the problem persists. Sorry I can't be more help. Also realize that when you play Rainbow Six (and other games), you can be hampered by other players who are not endowed with broadband.
