Is the firmware up to date?
Hi guys,
I'm posting here because I'm having difficulties to setup my router to maximize my internet performances. I know it's a long shot, but who knows maybe someone here will be able to help me out ! Thanks in advance.
First of all, I am using internet with my computer wired to the router. And my gf's using internet with her computer but wireless. Having 2 PCs is why we had to get a router. I understand that the router divide/calculate the speed to all the router's users but I was looking to see if there's an options that allows me to balance the speed and such.
See my exemples* :
in all the exemples my gf isnt downloading anything.
1. When my gf is connected to internet and so am I, both on the router, download speed of a normal IPT Torrent : around 1kbs - 100kbs.
2. When my gf's pc closed, and I'm on the internet through the router, download speed of a normal IPT Torrent : around 1kbs - 100kbs.
3. When I'm connected directly to the modem, no router in use, of a normal IPT Torrent : around 200kbs - 400kbs.
Even do, she's connected to the internet and that no one is downloading anything, it takes forever to load a simple page such as google, facebook, gmail, hotmail, etc..
I've disabled the firewall on my router, seemed it increased the speed a bit. I've checked on the user list and we're the only one using our router. It's a couple of months old router ASUS RT-N10.
I know you guys need some tests run to see some stats, there you go :
Wired to the router :
C2S : 120kbs
S2C : 146kbs
Your PC is connected to a Cable/DSL modem

Wired to the modem :

S2C : 2.47mbs

Information : Other network traffic is congesting the link

Thanks for all your help
It's funny that I haven't check if it was up to date. In fact, it wasn't.
Thanks for the heads up.
I ran the test again, here are the results :

Anything wrong?
What kind of "modem" is in front of the router?
Home grade routers don't like that torrent/p2p junk....which overwhelms their concurrent session tables and bogs them down big time.
Are both computers clean/ free from malware? Recent scans and cleaning with some good AV and anti malware programs? If you frequently torrent/p2p....you're a high candidate for having infected computers.
What OS are they?
I'd put the firewall back on, in the router. Firewall and security of your computers should be a priority...not the speed of that torrent stuff.

When the number of systems is increased in a particular zone than it affects the internet performance, as it increases the amount of information/data in/out and which slower down the rate at which the transmission is done.
i am having the same problem, how do i find out if my firmware is up to date?
