a pocketknife and some spare time

Winter brings about a bit of boredom so I took a few nights and whittled this "ball in a cage" It's my first attempt at this type of whittling so there are a lot of nicks, but I might keep going with some harder projects.

Take a look at what some seasoned whittlers can do...

Took me maybe 6 sessions anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour a pop. It's a 4 1/2" piece of solid Yellow cedar and might have been quicker if is was basswood.

I don't think I could do something like that.

    Nice work on it.

Ahh I remember making one of those back in my teens.....I forget which hobby book I found that in, I also did a 3 link chain. Fun stuff to pass the time.

Every normal man must be tempted at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
I often wonder if the voices in my head ever get frustrated because I'm just too damn lazy to climb that clock tower.
