    Buying reliable router

XP Pro, SP3, current updates, Thinkpad T60p used like a deskotp.

I have read that the Linksys WRT54G is a good router and that it was best
before the memory was reduced (power said to be reduced in the new smaller
code). I have had terrible luck with their new routers that look like
fallen over vases or dressing room powder boxes. But finding a new WRT54G
of the large memory kind is nearly impossible.

I do see new WRT54G+ routers with the DD-WRT firmware. Since Cisco isn't
interested in supporting these routers anyway (warranty stuff), would it be
a bad idea to get a new one with DD-WRT?

If 802.11g (and b) is acceptable, then I still like and use the
Linksys WRT54GL with dd-wrt firmware. Some versions (builds) of dd-wrt
are better than others, so do your homework. The dd-wrt forums at
www.dd-wrt.com are a good place to start.
