I'm still confused with some tweaking values. Please help !

    - Type of connection: DSL (PPPoE), Cable
    - My ISP : VNPT (Vietnam), advertised speed: 3068/ 509 kilobits per second.
    - My operating system: Windows XP SP2.
    - Here is my TCP Analyzer Results:

    « SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »
    Tested on: 08.01.2010 06:21
    IP address: 123.23.xxx.xx
    Client OS: Windows XP

    TCP options string: 020405ac0103030101010402
    MSS: 1452
    MTU: 1492
TCP Window: 130680 (multiple of MSS)
    RWIN Scaling: 1 bits (2^1=2)
    Unscaled RWIN : 65340
    Recommended RWINs: 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104, 1022208
    BDP limit (200ms): 5227kbps (653KBytes/s)
    BDP limit (500ms): 2091kbps (261KBytes/s)
    MTU Discovery: ON
    TTL: 48
    Timestamps: OFF
    SACKs: ON
    IP ToS: 00000000 (0)

    - My question:
+ TCP Window: 130680 is the value which is generated by TCP Optimizer after choosing Optimal setting.
+ While on TCP Analyzer Results page, Recommended RWINs: 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104, 1022208 ( none of them is 130680)
What is correct TCP Window value I should use ?

Please help me. Thanks in advance !

Try the following with TCP Optimizer:

    General Settings tab:
    Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
    MTU - 1492
    TTL - 64
    Checksum Offloading : enabled 0
    Windows Scaling - check
    TCP Receive Window - 127776
    MTU Discovery - Yes
    Black Hole Detect - No
    Selective Acks - Yes
    Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
    TCP 1323 Options:
    Timestamps - uncheck

    Advanced Settings :

    --- Internet Explorer Optimization---
Max Connections per Server : 10
    Max Connections per 1.0 Server : 10

    --- Host Resolution Priority ---
    LocalPriority : 5
    Host Priority : 6
    DNSPriority : 7
    NetbtPriority : 8

    --- LAN Tweaks ---
    Lan Browsing speedup : optimized
LAN Request Buffer Size : 32768

    --- Dynamic Port Allocation ---
    MaxUserPor : 65535
    TcpTimedWaitDelay : 30

    --- Type/Quality of Service ---
    QoS: NonBestEffortLimit : 0
    ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting : 0
    ToS: DefaultTOSValue : 0

    --- DNS Error Caching ---
    NegativeCacheTime : 0
    NetFailureCacheTime : 0
    NegativeSOACache Time : 0

    --- Gaming Tweak - Disable Nagle's algorithm ---
    TcpAckFrequency : Enabled 1

    Thank you for quick reply.
    Here is current results:

    « SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »
    Tested on: 08.01.2010 10:30
    IP address: 123.28.xxx.xxx
    Client OS: Windows XP

    TCP options string: 020405ac0103030101010402
    MSS: 1452
    MTU: 1492

    Unscaled RWIN : 63888
    Recommended RWINs: 63888, 127776, 255552, 511104, 1022208

    BDP limit (500ms): 2044kbps (256KBytes/s)
    MTU Discovery: ON
    TTL: 48
    Timestamps: OFF
    SACKs: ON
    IP ToS: 00000000 (0)

I get trouble to understand: The TCP Window value was generated by TCP Optimizer after choosing Optimal setting (130680) doesn't match any recommended value. Why ?

More information: regardless 2 Mbps or 3 Mbps is put as connection speed, the same generated TCP Window value (choosing Optimal button). (TCP Optimizer v3.0.3).
    Thanks in advance.

    I have another question:
    Results of the first tweaking:
    BDP limit (200ms): 5227kbps (653KBytes/s)
    BDP limit (500ms): 2091kbps (261KBytes/s)

    and the second tweaking: (current)
    BDP limit (200ms): 5111kbps (639KBytes/s)
    BDP limit (500ms): 2044kbps (256KBytes/s)

Are the higher BDP limit values better or not ?

Interesting question for Philip - TCPO Author !

    Results of the first tweaking:
    BDP limit (200ms): 5227kbps (653KBytes/s)
    BDP limit (500ms): 2091kbps (261KBytes/s)

    BDP depends on RWIN !

First look at BDP (Download Bandwidth) Formula :

    TCP Window (aka RWIN) = BDP*Max.latency /8 = 3068*500/8= 191750
Then look at Recommended RWINs and choose a number between 127776 & 255552 ! I'd go for 127776 RWIN value ! But It's up to you ! try the best value for you !

    Thank you again !

OK, my router (D-Link DSL-526B) is reporting the speed:
Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 509
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 3068

Could we do something based on these values above ?
They're probably the theory speed (max speed), not real speed ?
So, perhaps, choosing a number between 127776 and 255552 is not good.
How to test the exact bandwidth that my ISP provided ?

As to the first question... It's just a small variation in the way the Analyzer and Optimizer algorithms work, both 127776 and 130680 would work well (large unscaled RWIN value under 65535 when you divide by two).

As to the second question... The BDP limit at specific ping/latency value is just an indicator for what the cap of your possible maximum speed would be, based on the RWIN. With higher latencies, the RWIN buffer gets filled during file transfers, and the sender would have to wait for acknowledgements for received packets before sending more data. The BDP limit just shows you what the maximum possible throughput is at that latency.

Thank all of you for spending time to help !

    BTW, Now my situation is:
    My router (D-Link DSL-526B) reports:
Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 509
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 3068

Could we trust these speeds ?

First, check your IDM speed at several servers : Mediafire, Microsoft, FPT server like game portal...hoặc những nơi bạn thường download.

    If you get > 380 Kb/s => It's OK !

OK, I used to download from cnet, filehippo, mediafire, ... with FDM. I get 170 KB/s (average) for most of download.
    Is it OK ?

    OK, here:
Please help me for analyzing them

    I notice that in my earlier post, 170 KB/s ≈ 1360 Kb/s

    How to read tracert :

Hop 1 : shows signals between modem & PC, It should be 1ms 1ms 1ms ! Higher or occur * or Request timed out=> not good !

Hop 2: shows signals between modem & ISP It should range from 10 to 40 ms ! Higher or occur * or Request timed out => not good !

From Hop 3 to trace complete : ISP Network Signals, * or Request timed out => Not Good !

    How to fix Hop 1 & 2 issue :

+Turn off modem/router for 10 minutes, relocate them to some place that are a few feet away from ALL other electrical devices, including apart from each other. Also, make sure you do not coil up any excess length of signal or power cables.

Then do a tracert again ! Hope this helps !

    If not :

Do a full scan for malware/spyware with :

    Ad-aware
    Spybot Search & Destroy
    Superantispyware

    - Đặt nằm : kê 2 miếng b́a (hoặc sách) 2 bên mép modem chừa khoảng hở cho khí nóng thoát

    QUOTE
    Mức SNR chuẩn : > 25 db
    Mức Line Attenuation chuẩn : < 40

Nếu vượt chuẩn trên th́ tín hiệu đường truyền có vấn đề, kiểm tra lại

+ Splitter : do lâu ngày hoặc splitter chất lượng thấp => thay splitter

    Standard SNR level : > 25 db
    Standard Attenuation level : < 40
    It's OK !
From Hop 3 to trace complete : ISP Network Signals
I've contacted my ISP technician and complained about the stars in tracert.
He said that due to in their particular specifications, no effect to quality.
I am now likely to stick with this.
