Is there a way to hide that damn download bar that appears above the taskbar?

I know I'm an old IE fan but should I be trying Chrome?

Chrome is the best browser out there in my opinion. It is by far the fastest, now has many extensions and themes and is much more secure with it's built in sandbox technology. They also update it regularly and fix issues immediately.

The only reason I don't use chrome as my primary browser is you can't rearrange or customize the toolbars, i.e. add icons for frequent things like Home, New Window, History.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

Since I have no idea about setting it up can you recomend a good site to reference for security settings etc?

Not much to setup Easto, just block third party cookies. I would recommend using AdThwart, Ghostery and WOT for more security and privacy.
