Enabling gigabit ethernet?...

I have a Linksys WAG320N modem/router/switch which should have 4
10/100/1000 ports, my PC has a "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller"
which should work fine as 1Gbit... But the connection is always
negotiated as 100Mbit, any ideas why/how to get 1Gbit to work? I even
tried forcing 1Gbit/full duplex setting on my pc but still no luck (on
XP -> NIC settings -> Configure -> Advanced -> Speed and Duplex ->
Value -> 1.0Gbps Full Duplex)

Sounds like the equipment detects substandard conditions and falls back to a
slower rate. Are you using a CAT6 cable/cord?

You guys were right, works well with cat 6. I wrongly assumed it
should work with 5e, especially at 3m length.

Cat5 should work too, especially at such a short distance. You
probably had a bad cable.

Or maybe a crossover cable. With modern 10/100Mbps kit, the ports are
usually MDI/MDX autoswitching so it makes no difference which type of
cable you use. GBit requires all 8 wires of a cable and don't tolerate
crossover cables IME.
