High Internet Connection, but VERY HIGH Ping (HELP!)

Hello,

I have Virgin broadband and Netgear WGR614 router. Me and my flatmates have been sharing the internet for almost 6 months now. However, in the last couple of weeks, even though we have 20MBit internet, the pings have been well above 2000ms or more. I have found an explanation, I believe whenever a specific flatmate's computer is on, the ping goes up 2000ms. We have checked everything but could not find a solution, ran all the Spyware programs, turned off all the unnecessary software etc. but still not helping. Is there any other way to solve this problem? Since I'm a gamer I can't play anything when her computer is on, and I can't ask her to turn it off can I? :P

I was thinking the same thing...perhaps something else running could be spyware sucking it up.


If you have access to the router then go in and block torrent ports for a few days and see if that helps.
