Locating duplicate files

When I make my backups of photos to my external drive I've just been dragging and dropping. Since many of them are in different folders etc, I have a ton of duplicates.

So that brings me to...

What the best way (or software) to check and then delete these files?

How can I make incremental backups so I don't have to do this anymore?
