    Thoughts on a docking station?

I've been thinking of going this route but I also know that when you're done you're dealing with a bare drive as opposed to one in an enclosure.

    Thoughts?

i have one like this for my archive drives, works fine and is e-sata.

i keep the dives in the original plastic cases for protection in a filing cabinet, but i want to get a fire safe.

i like them. i dont think i would use one as my primary boot drive, as its just another connection between devices (at absolute best, maintaining same throughput. more than likely youll have some loss), but the flexibility you get is great.

i would recommend one with both USB and eSATA if you have an eSATA port available. so much faster than USB, plus you can swap in a different boot drive if youre so inclined and not suffer noticable performance loss between the two.

heres the one i have... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817388021

im not necessarily waving my arms about recommending that one in particular. it works well, but you could probably find a more feature-rich one (built-in card reader, docking space for 2 drives, etc) if thats what youre looking for.
