    Angry Destination net unreachable

Need some help here. Several web sites are not connecting while others are. I'm using either IE5 or Netscape 4.7. I use Roadrunner on a P200 PC, running WIN95, & a Zonelabs 2.0 firewall program. When I run a tracert it leaves the Roadrunner servers Ok and bounces around the site's servers (www.nytimes.com in particular) before it gives me the "Destination net.." message at Hop 17.

The brain-trust at Roadrunner's help desk has no clue why this is happening and can't resolve the issue.

I'd really like to be able to read the paper again. Plus it does the same thing for theonion.com There's the true crime!
    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Try performing a WHOIS lookup on the problem domains and getting in contact with the netops for the remote network. They should be able to tell you if there is any network issues. Might provide some form of help via e-mail or something like that.

If the connection is going outside the RR network though, then there really isn't a problem with your computer's configuration (unless it's resolving the domain incorrectly ... hmm, you don't define your DNS servers, do you?) or the ISP's network configuration. Check to make sure taht the site hasn't recently changed IP addresses on thier web server. If they have, ping the server to resolve its IP and check it against whatever thier netops tells you it should be.

That's about all I can think of at the moment. Post a reply if you find a fix for it to let me know how it turned out.

I had the same prob. Intermittent inability to reach sites in RR and also outside. The specific sites would change, but were always accessible on other (dialup) systems here. I repeatedly checked my setup with RR tech and it was fine. Needless to say, RR tech was worthless. ("reboot your system and delete your cache" gee, wish I thot of dat, duh) Uninstalled RR's IE5 and installed a clean copy. Then my 2nd Dell laptop died (8 mos of hell since buying Dell-bad chips abound) so not sure if it really helped. Am not having the prob with 3rd sys, tho, and am not using any RR versions. Might be worth a try.

    Sprint_boy,
I'm on Roadrunner in Charlotte and have a similar problem quite a bit. Nearly every time it happens I find out they did work on the DNS servers, or DHCP servers, or both. Your best bet is to do a full reset/reboot. Turn off the cable modem, your PC, restart cable modem until you get silid green cable light, then reboot your PC.

I know it sounds stupid but after doing this countless times. It always seems to work. My guess is I get stale DNS information or something. After doing all of this you will usually force new DHCP settings and new information.

Good luck. If you find a better way to deal with this, please post your solution.

Thanks for the knowledge. Glad to see I'm not alone w/ this problem. THe RR on-line help kas posted a DNS Y2K fix from MSFT that was affecting me. However, after installing the patch & rebooting it still doesn't solve the problem, nor does yours. I'll keep searching . Thanks for the tips!
