You looking to change your LAN IP address, or the public WAN IP address?
Well, my modem has a built in router so it's not separate. I used to be able to change my IP address easily with a linksys router but my ISP, WideOpenWest, recommended this to my dad and of course my dad wouldn't deny tips of an "Expert". I used to be able to change the mac address via router, 192.168.2.1, which changed my IP instantly. Now.......I can't change it at all. I tried this one method where I saved settings, changed the mac address, then loaded it but the IP changes only for about 10 seconds and then goes to what it was before I did the whole settings thing. I tried leaving it off for about a couple hours but that didn't change anything plus it seems like it would be to annoying to change it like that. Can someone help me on finding a fast and easy way to change my IP address.
I have Arris TM552
Firmware Version: 1218
Boot Version: 2.03
Hardware: TM552
TL;DR I can't change my IP address with my new router no matter how many times I try.

I'm not sure you can change the MAC of MTAs....that's a telephony modem, so your household is getting its VoIP phone service through that. Your phone number ties into your house using a method to identify your house....
What need is there to change your public IP address..there's usually no legit reason.

Even though your modem gets its IP dynamically your ISP may have you locked to a specific IP they want you to use. I'd say you will have to call them and plead your case if you want it changed. My public IP address has only changed once in 8 years and as far as I know it wasn't because of anything I did at my end. I've swapped numerous routers and it never changes.
I don't know the same things you don't know.
