One device gives different upload speeds for different computers

    Hello,

I am facing a problem with my internet connection. I am using a broadband wireless connection, the USB key when used with other computers gives an upload speed between 100 - 120 kbps where as if I use it on my computer gives an upload speed between 25 - 35 kbps which is a drastic change.

I cleared the temp files and cookies but still nothing changed. What could be the reason behind this ? Can somebody help me with this please.

Below are my results from the speedguide's analyzer.

Have you scan your comp to ensure it is free of malware?

    Post your Hijackthis log.

Venturi Wireless - Netbooster Client may be a caching server, that is, using this software will redirect your internet traffic through their server rather than directly to your intended websites.

Thus, your speed will depend on the speed of this server.

McAfee antivirus is a heavy drain of CPU resources. I rather use some lighter antivirus like NOD32. If you intend to uninstall McAfee, you will need to use their uninstall software, and not the one in your Windows.

I got Mcafee on the other computer as well and the speed is good on it. And the netbooster sw was installed just two days back on the suggestion of the ISP provider. So, I guess the prob is not with the netbooster.

Is there anything else apart from these two which might be a cause of problem ?

Are the other computers having the same RAM size and processor speed as this computer? Problem with USB connections is that the hardware of the comp has to handle the processing and memory, unlike routers which have their own built-in system.

The one where I am getting good upload speed has 1 GB RAM + Pentium 4 processor and the one in which I am getting slow speed has 4 GB RAM + Intel Quad Core processor.

I forgot to mention one thing, the comp on which I am getting slower upload speed is connected to one more ADSL modem apart from the wireless connection.

You think this could be a problem?

So which connection are you using at any one time - ADSL or wireless?

I use either one of the two. When I use ADSL I disconnect wireless and when I use wireless I disconnect ADSL, but I dont remove the cable from the ethernet port as the wireless connection uses USB port.

To do a tracert, click 'Start' and then 'Run'. Type "cmd" into the box and click 'ok'.

A DOS black screen will appear. Type after the C:\>

    tracert www.yahoo.com

    and press enter key

When test is completed, move mouse cursor to the DOS black screen, click right and choose 'select all'.

Move mouse cursor to the Quick Reply box of this forum, click right and 'paste'.
