Weird issue - Router ip must be changed to connect to internet

    Hello Gurus,
    Have weird issue.

    Here's my connection:
    Modem --> Router --> Computer

To connect to internet, I must use the router ip address anything but 192.168.0.1.
With 192.168.0.1, I can ping the router but cannot ping or connect to any regular websites (like google) . If I change the router ip (lets say to 192.168.1.2), everything works great.

    1) I am suspecting my computer that somewhere some setting made such that my computer cannot passthru 192.168.0.1?

    Any ideas

    Thanks in advance
    Sivaji

    Modem is Motorola SB5101.

This issue is not related to any particular router, because I tried it on various company models. I have tried with routers from Netgear, Belkin, D-Link etc.. If I make connection to Modem directly, then everything works fine.

The issue is somehow this one computer cannot passthru router for internet if I set its ip to 192.168.0.1. Rest of the computers (I have two more laptops) work fine even if I set to 192.168.0.1.

    1) I am wondering is there any setting in this computer that is blocking 192.168.0.1 for passthru?

You can't set the IP address on a PC to match the default gateway IP of the router. If you want to use 192.168.0.1 for one of your PC's you will have to go into the routers configuration and change it's LAN IP to something other than 192.168.0.1, something you are not going to use for a PC IP down the road.
I don't know the same things you don't know.

I am not trying to set my PC's ip to 192.168.0.1. What I am saying is that the problem is I cannot connect my computer to internet if the routers default gateway ip is "192.168.0.1".

The PC works great if I set the default gateway of router to anything other than 192.168.0.1.

    1) I am wondering if there any setting in my computer that is preventing it from accessing the internet if the router's default gateway ip is 192.168.0.1?

Is the PC's NIC set to automatically optain an IP and DNS info? What do you get when you run ipconfig/all on the problem PC. Clip and past here if you like.

Sounds like something odd in the TCP/IP settings of this one computer..try running a TCP/Winsock repair utility.
