Its good if you have crap DNS servers from your ISP, but not as fast as decent ISP DNS servers.

I tried it with XP before and found it slower accessing the net but with win 7 it is just as fast so I think I will leave it on my router unless I see a difference.

Yes I've mentioned it frequently for a long time now.
I use it for all my clients setups...including networks with domain controllers, I simply set the DNS forwarders to use Open DNS servers instead of the ISPs.
For smaller peer to peer networks, I set the DNS over ride on the router to use OpenDNS so the routers DHCP hands out those servers instead of the ISPs (or does the DNS fowarding itself..depending upon make/model router).

Primary reason...increased protection from malware sites. It's an added layer of protection.

For places which desire some content filtering...it's a free option with OpenDNS.

Performance wise, they're pretty decent. Years ago when they first came out they were slower, and still by rule of design they'll usually be a hair slower than using your ISPs 2x DNS servers..which usually are just 1 hop away. But OpenDNS has beefed up and usually perform quite well for most users latency wise....and the increase in protection is IMO worth it.

So, Cat, after reading your response, I take it, you recommend it and have not had any issues with it?

    thx

I wouldn't employ it for my clients unless it was beneficial and reliable. If it were unreliable/caused issues/etc I wouldn't use it.

I do exactly as YOSC does, all my clients get it. I have a single account for all my clients and I can push to all of them blocking of malware sites, phishing site and even porn if needed. It's great for people with kids and you want to block or monitor their surfing.
