Question Server won't boot with tape drive attached

I'm running a Dell PE1800 and a Quantum Valueloader DLT VS160 tape drive with an Adaptec external SCSI card 29320LAP.
Recently we had a power hit and the mobo went bad; since then i've rebuilt the server and now when I boot the server without the tape drive attached (either unplugged or powered down) the server boots up fine. If i attach the tape drive I get a message:
    BIOS MANUFACTURER MODE DETECTED
Manufacturing mode will be cleared before the next boot
System Reboot Required for Normal Operations
I've changed the SCSI ID's to see if there were any conflicts; and get the same result. The server has a CERC card in it running Raid 5 and it doesn't ever seem to find it or any drives when the tape drive is plugged in.

    Any suggestions?
    bad card?
    bad cable?
bad tape drive? (tape drive seems to boot normally and doesn't have any diagnostic messages)

    S'up dude!

First hunch is the Bootable Device order in the motherboards BIOS options....the Adaptec is probably set as the primary boot device. You'll want to get in there and reconfigure so the Perc is your primary bootable device.

the only options i had were 'BIOS boot order' or 'Dell blah blah Cerc...'; I chose teh Cerc card because i knew that was my raid controller but i get the same results...
I also got the same results from both servers, new one and the rebuilt one...

Hmmm....I'm onsite for the day, but I'll try to hunt around..I bet if you hit whatever key combo it is to get into the Adaptecs Configuration menu BIOS during POST you may find an option to make it bootable or not.

looks like i got it, thanks Cat...
I had to change the "SCSI Controller Int 13 Support" to "Disabled"... seemed plain as night that that's how you shut off the card from being a boot device
