Very slow internet: Fast download/Very slow upload.

Hello! I've looked around on the forum a bit before registering and there were a lot of helpful replies, but nothing I saw speicifc to my own issue. I'm kind of new at this stuff. haha.

What's been happening recently is, my internet is extremely slow and unresponsive when I try to do things like, go to a new webpage or send an instant message.

Downloading large files, however, is as fast as ever.

I did a speed test and ran a traceroute and got fairly consistent results from both:

Download Speed: 4995 kbps (624.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 29 kbps (3.6 KB/sec transfer rate) (this was sometimes as low at 1.0 KB/sec)

My traceroute always seems to just time out the whole way:

    Tracing route to google.com [74.125.67.100]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
    1 1 ms 1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2 * * 3582 ms 10.66.160.1
    3 * * * Request timed out.
    4 * * * Request timed out.
    5 * * * Request timed out.

    18 * * * Request timed out.
    19 * * 3848 ms gw-in-f100.google.com [74.125.67.100]

Crazy ping and then it dies. I checked everything I could. All connections, switched out cables, etc.

I'm on a desktop connected wirelessly to a Linksys WRT54G router, using a NETGEAR 108 Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter WG311T.

Any idea what might be up? My general knowledge of this stuff isn't enough to pinpoint where the problem might be. XD

    Thanks to anyone who replies!

Using bluetooth device(s) running at the same frequency as your wireless connection?

hook the desktop up using ethernet to the router for testing and see what it does.

If everything traces ok and pings ok..problem gone then its a wireless issue like your close to a lamp, something causing issues with the signal.
