Thread: żIs this forum going to allow the use of the "N" word next?

Question żIs this forum going to allow the use of the "N" word next?

I see more & more use of F**k; **** you; you're a fairy; you suck; f**k you, I am your bitch, Brent; etc.

żWhat's next, the "N" word or abstracted versions of it?

I understand that "Considering the real-time nature of this forum,...." (Rules, Policies & Disclaimers); this can happen.

However, when I see moderators participating in threads where the above is used....I wonder.

Well, I see one can no longer type the full "F" word.

    huh?

sometimes people use 'bad words' to emphasize emotions in their text, as it is usually harder to Interpret what one means on just using text, without actually seeing or hearing the person

If you all believe it's necessary and maintains our rights....that's ok by me. It just seems somewhat out of control, at times.

Well, for example; in a post entitled "How to uncap speed on cable", Mr. Hamilton,s first reply was "Hey Bozzman- f u c k you, Australia is going...."

If that is not "outta hand"...that's ok by me. I respect you position on the subject.

chacmool, true, true. I have to agree with you 100%, and that's the reason I have moved on to other forums. I only came back this morning for a visit, to find nothing has changed. It's a shame...

Oh that sort of thing, Yeah I agree with you there 100% I mean we can go around editing everyones posts who uses a bad word, but that would take some time and many many complaints from people about Freedom of speech bla blah blah. We aren't going to go around removing every bad word we see in a post. Only the Really Bad ones we WILL edit

You know what I do when I see a bad word? I just ignore the words and don't let it bother me, heh. If you let it bother you then the other persons reason for posting it has worked. Don't let them intimidate you, just look the other way and say "What an idiot" LOL

If you go through life letting little things like that bother you so much, you won't get anything productive done!

Never said I was offended and have accepted all your responses.

Just stated my perception of seeing more cussing and asked how far it was going to be allowed to go.

Complaints about free speech, decisions about editing, evaluating which words are bad(?) and assessing you audience; are subjects that are clearly in your arena.

This forum has, no doubt, participation from all ages & levels of expertise. It takes a stand on illegal activities. It is my humble opinion, that the forum would be better served if it took a somewhat stronger stand on vulgarity. I cringe at the idea of someones teenage child asking for, or seeking, techinical advice and receiving and/or reading f**k you, and the like, response(s).

I don't see the value added.

98% of the teenage population curses daily (or that I know). You would be surprised how many teenagers that I have talked to come to these boards for help and curse themselves.

Lemme tell you, "f*ck you" is nothing compared to what todays teenagers experience in High School. Bad words are mild compared to what they talk about these days. I'm 20 right now, graduated in '98 and I've been there, High School is nothing but pervission. My sister, who is 15, goes there now and Boy the Storys I hear from her mouth! I don't like it either, it down right scares me and saddens me that those things go on. I wish they would stop, but i don't see that happening anytime soon. The media flaunts these things all over the place! On TV, on the Radio in magazines. Have you ever read one of those Cosmopoliton Magazines and stuff like that? I have, my sister reads them and it's nothing but Sex, Sex, Sex. It's a nasty world out there, and the media is promoting bad things all the time.

We will try to keep this forum as clean as we can, Mild cussing we won't mess with as it is just that, Mild. If it's real bad and causes a problem, or is just down vulger and nasty we will edit it.

I believe it is the moderators and administrators, of a forum, that set the tone.

If you all feel that the mild cussing is necessary in disscussing techicnical issues...that is for you all to decide. I am simply providing feedback.

If you all have a line that you will not allow crossing...that is for you all to determine.

My feedback may, or may not, have merit or value added. Again, that is for you all to ascertain.

You have read my post(s) and stated your views. I thank you for taking the time, out of your busy schedules, to do so.

Everyones feedback has merit and importance. We hear and listen to all suggestions/comments/feedback/flames/and praises. This forum would not be such a good public learning place as it is without the support of the people. We, of course, tailor this site and the forums to the people so that they can use them as they are intended.

I'm not saying cussing is or isn't neccassary to communicate technical issues. All i'm saying is people cuss, if not for the simple reason to only bring out some emotion and to "get a point across" to people.

it's just used to convey emotion. If it gets out of hand though we will edit the posts. Mild cussing may or may not be neccassary but it's not for you or me to decide, it's for the person making the post. Only if they take it to the extreme or get out of hand with it in their post will we edit it.

I personally find this to be a non-issue. But I do want to point out sometjing that a teacher once told me. He said "cursing and swearing is just ignorance of the English language." For some reason that has stuck with me. I'm not saying that I don't curse, but I don't use it in everyday conversations like so many people do these days.

Just Mark, I don't either. I don't use it in regular conversations, talking out loud. It just turns people off sometimes. And I really don't feel comfortable saying it, actually speaking and having the words come out of my mouth just makes me feel very uncomfortable.

I dunno, maybe it's my religous influence, i dunno, but i just make sure to aviod saying them.

The only time i use them is in Text, where i don't have to actually say them, instead I'm typing them, heh. But usually because it's so much harder to show what one is intending to mean with Text. Because people will interpret that text in different ways.

You know I am a Christian and would orefer not to see profanity on this site period. I also know that those who can not think of a more creative way to speak will also tend to use profanity to express their passion because the know no other way to get the point expressed. Profanity is a part of life and to be honest I have many friends to include Christians that struggle with breaking the habit. I myself while serving in the Marine Corps learned to abuse language in this way and have since learned a better way to communicate. I would much prefer the great tech support the moderators supple than an internet watch dog. I can see past the text. I once walked that road and I know where it is and where it came from...
Although I agree that moderates could give a simple and curtious reminder when they post on a topic that has flagrant abuse such as Nick's first attempt. I have come to know since his first post he is 19 and I believe at that age I also had the same fire. So I understand him as I am sure most do.
Hey we all have to live here and make room for one another. Even Jesus spent most of his time with the sinners, tax collectors, harlots and the degenerates of his time.

As the popularity of speedguide grows, it's inevitable that we'll see more and more people, and some of them will act very immature. So, a moderator becomes less of a forum leader, and more of a damage control specialist. I'm not peachy keen happy with it, but with dozens of new topics and posts popping up every day, there's no way I can be cognizant of every word written here. Otoh, you have less of my long winded posts to deal with.

I will post a friendly reminder about language in the most active forum.

    Regards,

Brent & John made it very clear that mild cussing is quite acceptable & sanctioned @ SpeedGuide.
