A BB gun is a good starter... before you move up to a pellet gun.

Go for it. Get the training, permit and bust a few caps.

I have a permit, but refuse to keep a gun in the house. Or is it that my wife won't let me keep it in the house as long as my daughters live here?

Doesn't your sister have a kid? Think about this, what if the kid found the gun and hurt him/her self or others?

    Something to think about......

lets say your place was robbed and the gun taken. What if that gun ended up in a criminals hand that ends up killing children?

We can play what if's all night, all day, all week long. What if your house was broken into, say a home invasion of sorts, and your child was kidnapped? It's too easy to play that game.

Brent, if you want to buy a gun, buy a damn gun. My suggestion, any flavor 12ga for home defense, 9mm Beretta for personal.

Whatever you get, know it like the back of your hand. Know how to shoot it...become an expert in it's use. Know everything about it. Know how to transport it legally, know how to clean it, know how to perform your immediate actions, know it's limitations, know the laws of your state, know EVERYTHING.

Don't be a punk and just buy a gun for the cool factor.

Nah, not for the cool factor, I'm seriously thinking about owning one, taking lessons, going out on a range to practice etc....

Get something that makes a nice BIG hole( 50 caliber sniper rifle comes to mind). If you want a real gun, your gonna spend around $500 or more for it. As Jawz pointed out, know everything about it and your states laws and don't buy just for the cool factor.
