    D-Link firmware update

    Greetings. I've got a D-Link 655 A3 with the 1.11EU firmware and it
works fine. Now I see that there is a firmware update available (1.21).
However, most of the discussion suggests that it is merely to allow for
the SharePort function, which I neither need nor want. Under those
circumstances, do I really want to run this fw patch? Is there any real
(other) advantage? I'm thinking along the lines of 'if it ain't
    broke...'

    cheers,

    Henry

Don't "update". I have the 628 & wanted to try the shareport because
I am dual booting (linux & winxp); was interested in whether it works like
    the netgear w/printer port.

Anyway, my patching with fw 1.13 created a huge problem in that when the
password is entered, I wasn't able to change any configuration; the router
would reboot, try to access the internet when the router was disconnected
due to rebooting, waited "forever" for the router to be usable again then
find nothing got changed. Went round & around with tech support & the
problem was thought to be resolved because configurations was able to be
changed when the password entry wasn't entered (this could be a "security"
feature?). The only way is to get back to the initial settings & redo
    everything except for the password.

Of course your 655 may not have the same fw bug; my initial fw was at 1.11.
Dlink hasn't fixed the fw bug or just considered it "another user error".
