    Erattic Pings while gaming..attached tracert

    Hi,
I've been having "connection interuppted" errors every 10 seconds or so while playing COD online, my ping will spike from 60-80 to 500-999 during that time. I've never had a problem in the previous couple months until now. I can browse the web with no problems.
I've enclosed a tracert to google and a speedguide report...

Please let me know if you see something that looks wrong.
    Thanks

MTU is optimized for Windows XP PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.

    MSS = 1440
MSS is optimized for Windows XP PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising your MTU value.

Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 17280
    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits (scale factor: 2^2=4)
Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 4320

In Windows Vista, unless "TCP/IP Auto-Tuning" is disabled, only the Current TCP Window is displayed. Use the SG Vista TCP/IP patch instead of the TCP Optimizer for automatic tweaking.
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

    126720 (1-5 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2)
    253440 (2-14 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^2)
    506880 (8-30 Mbit lines, depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^3)
    1013760 (25-60 Mbit lines depending on latency. MSS * 44 * 2^4)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

    Your TCP Window limits you to: 691 kbps (86 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
    Your TCP Window limits you to: 276 kbps (35 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 113 hops
    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Are you running any software firewalls ,or hadware ones if so make sure you allow icmp requests/ping/wan requests to get to the local machine. If you are just running vista firewall make sure all the cod is allowed to go though in control panel firewall and adn advacned.

Thanks mccoffee, but I do allow COD as an exception in my firewall.

How come every tracert I do no matter where there's always a high ping on the first set of numbers? You can see it on line 5 on the attached tracert.

Also before this started in Cod join server page I used to get 20-30 servers with 60-70 ish pings and now I only get like 3 servers that low, the rest are all 100 or 200 or more. What is going on?

your hop5 is high ,and yes I did notice the high ping in other routes try this move your modem away from any electrical devices and halogen light if you do use them...

Also try rasing your mtu to 1492 to see if the ping improves also leave your modem off for about 5-10mins

    use 1492 for mtu http://smallvoid.com/article/vista-tcpip-mtu.html

Are you using any new cordless phones ? Do you hear clicks on the line ,or any other noises when ypu pick up the phone?

Ok I changed the mtu to 1492, it didn't seem to change anything. My modem is in the same place it's always been and I tried unplugging it already.
    I'm stumped!
My Isp is worthless, but they are the only ones available to me.

Is there any way to rule out my ISP as being the problem? Internet browsing is fine, download speeds are the same as always been a whoping 350kb

I contacted my ISp...waiting to hear back.

    C:\Users\Matt>netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces

MTU MediaSenseState Bytes In Bytes Out Interface
    ------ --------------- --------- --------- -------------
    1500 1 0 24969 Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1
    1492 1 2094377 1902001 Broadband Connection
