    My new 2nd Amendment Toy

Since I was a Gunsmith in the Marines and carried, fixed, modified, built & fired them for a living, I just haven't had the motivation to own a tactical weapon since I retired. I kind of miss it now and you never know about the future of such things so I decided to buy me an AR15. Not from a top shelf Armory, but still pretty nice. Bushmaster XM-15E2S. Has an 11.5" barrel with a 5.5" flash suppressor to make it legal. I wanted the carrying handle and stock sights since I don't plan needing anything else ever. The only mod I might make is a rail on the top handguard with a laser pointer & possibly a light. Still debating if I want to put on the collapsible butt stock.

If I blow a hole in that guitar I will be sick as it cost more than the rifle! Actually I haven't bought a box of rounds yet.

Curious, why that over a shotgun, as far as home defense goes?

    Index that finger soldier!

    Nice weapon man!
Every normal man must be tempted at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
I often wonder if the voices in my head ever get frustrated because I'm just too damn lazy to climb that clock tower.

Home defense? Not hardly. My Rotty is first line and after that I have a good 'ol trusty .38 special. It's locked up in an digital keypad pop up pistol safe. My wife and I have been to the local pistol range and are very familiar with it. Hard to beat a good revolver for a home gun. No magazines to wear out, no mechanisms to jamb and enough wallop for the average Joe.

The AR15 is sort of a pleasure for me as I kind of miss my weapons in the Corps. I plan on sighting it in, making sure it will shoot multiple rounds, cleaning it and putting it away. I believe there will come a day when we see another assault weapon ban and prices will once again soar.

At least you guys noticed the trigger finger! After all those years in the Corps I am pretty well versed in weapons security, but seeing as though I haven't even bought a box of rounds yet, I wasn't too worried about it.

It's not any different than an M16 at all. There are so many Armories putting out the ARs these days and many of them are really good rifles. A lot of them are MILSPEC with good chrome barrels, bolts and attention to detail. Quality varies as do prices. Mine is a mid-level Bushmaster with an 11.5" barrel with a 5.5" compensator to make the required 16" length. A 11.5" barrel would be a cool "entry" weapon, but their for law enforcement and military.

During the 10 year assault weapon ban, if you didn't a have a weapon made prior to the ban you were SOL in getting a new one with a flash suppressor, high capacity magazine and some other goodies. "Pre-Ban" weapons prices sky rocketed and some people paid 2-3 times what I did for the same style rifle. Bush let the ban run out in late 2004 and now you can buy nice stuff again. Those folks that paid through the nose during the ban are kind of sour, but still throw the term "Pre-ban" around because it sounds cool. You can however, modify a pre-ban assault weapon just about any way you want.

Whats with the finger Marine?! Cleared or not....

Nice rifle. I didn't do nearly as may years of service as you but every time i fire my AR15 it brings back some memories!

Mine is a 20 inch HBAR with removable carry handle (A3 civy version). Bushmaster as well.

Pick up some more mags while they are cheap!

EDIT: For what its worth, if that length of pull fits you then to heck with the calapsible stock. Just one more thing to break if/when the **** hits the fan.

I had to go back and edit the specs. It's an 11.5" barrel with a 5.5" flash suppresor to make it legal. It's an HBAR also. I would have liked the flat top, but can't be picky for the price I got it for. I actually like the A2 buttstock and will leave it on. I don't plan on storming my kid's bedroom with it so I don't need it for entry!

Not that I've ever priced that kind of rifle but...damn that's cheap.

If you're looking at it as an investment...would you be able to give it up?

During the ban, this could and would have cost double that. You can get some kits for that price, but most hover around $900 and up.
