    Talking Vista Clean Install

    Hello,

My bro goes to IUPUI college which offers Vista Ultimate for $20 and Office 2007 Enterprise for $27. Crazy deal, right? Well, I want to install it on my laptop, which passes the Windows Upgrade Advisor. One problem I see is that I only have a 60gb hard drive. What I am wondering is that if i buy a 250gb 2.5" ide drive for my laptop, can I just put it in and put in the Vista disk? If not, would I have to somehow pre-format it? I am fairly sure that the Vista they offer is a Clean Install, but if it's the Upgrade version, will I have to install XP from an old disk on the new hard drive; then install Vista over it?

Aside from licensing compliance of the school...

Yes..plop in a new hard drive (compatible with the laptop)..boot from the CD..all of the format and partition tools you need to install have been including on the Windows CD since Windows 98. Just boot from the CD first..and follow the instrux.

Is that just about how it's my brother's license technically, and it won't be used for school?

Boot off the DVD and choose Clean Install, but don't enter your serial # and un-check "activate when I'm online."

Install Vista, and once you're done, run the setup.exe off the DVD from within Windows and choose upgrade. Enter your serial # this time, and it will upgrade the installation (takes a while).
