Absolutely baffling problem with my Ping in CS - despite overall good connection..

    Hi Folks!

Ok first off the bat, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to advanced networking stuff - i've a good general knowledge of computers but I might need some help with the advanced stuff. But I'll do my best to explain the problem and then with some guidance can fill in the blanks?

I've just moved to spain and have a new ISP, telitec. They're a small company but overall the service is good. Its wimax SDSL, so I have 1mb/sec up, and 1mb sec down.

I'm having a problem, however, playing counterstrike. Basically the problem is, that my ping seems to have a mind of its own! When I search for servers, I generally find a few with very low ping - less than 30 - there's a couple usually under 20. But when I connect, for the first little while, my ping is around 50, but then it skyrockets, going up to 400, 500 - I was playing on the UKcs server earlier today and my ping was over 700!! Now normally, I'd just put this down to my connection's capability - its wimax, so its via a dish on the side of my apartment - but this weekend, I had the most amazingly good connection, my ping was lower than 15 for almost the whole weekend! I was so happy! but today - the problems are back - as I detailed.

I'm not terribly tech-savvy like i said, but I do know some basics, so I ping'd a server with the -t switch, so it kept pinging it, and while it was pinging it, I connected and played. Sure enough, despite the server being listed as having a ping of about 30, my ping was over 400 - but get this - when I quit and looked at the ping reports - the average ping was 35/40ms with no packet loss! Truly I'm confused now.

I've turned off windows firewall. I'm not using wifi - I've got the cable going straight from my dish to my PC - I'm currently running every bit of antivirus and spyware I can get my hands on - but so far the only problem has been a few ad-tracking cookies - standard stuff. In the UK, I used this same machine, and had a great time of it - no problems. Indeed, this weekend was amazingly good.

i've pasted the reports from pathping here - there was one switch along the way that looked like it might have a problem, but I dont know, I dont know enough to understand what I'm looking at

    Someone, anyone, help!!

Hi bro there might be a good answer for you.
but it all depends on type of modem you have.
Does you modem have a build in router?
if so do you have access to the config of the router?
one of the thing that can cause jump in ping is SPI setting if it is enabled
it help to trun it off this will help with Ping as well as any lag you may see.
If you do not have a router built in then I would look for other things.
Cable issue Cat 5e to the modem from the PC
you have SDSL so there is alway a timming issue with sat

    see if that helps
