major problem creating wireless network with toucan

Hi i am trying to set up a wireless internet network in my house using the internet isp toucan.

    current hardware:

asdl modem= speedtouch 330 connects to computer by usb cable, only other port in back connects to phone line, no ethernet port in back, no spare holes in back of modem.

    wireless access point= belkin model = f5d6130 802.11b

    ethernet cable= 1

I was told that i would be able to set up a wireless network with this hardware, however i have tried for hours with no success. The way I have tried to do this is connect the modem to the computer via usb, then connect the wireless access point to the computer via the ethernet cable. However, the wireless access point cannot find anything. What do you think i am doing wrong, what do i need to do to set up a fast and smooth wireless broadband home network, do i need alternate hardware.

Did you by any chance solve the problem you previously asked because I am having the same problem with a belkin router aswell?
