    It begins

So, uh I decided to paint my main mode of transportation. Like many gear-head types I'm always looking for ways to improve the breed. Better tires, engine managment, or any other "mod" that can be performed to eek out that extra little bit of performance from a machine.

However in the world of motorcycles, eeking out extra power is rather futile. Modern sportbikes are laughably overpowered from the factory. Take for instance my current ride, it's a 2001 Triumph TT600....compared to the current crop of 600 race replicas, it's tepid. Downright slow compared to the best of it's breed, but compared to anything with FOUR wheels it's a bullet. Aside from some serious drag cars, nothing can even begin to come close to a modern sportbike. They are simply fast.

So my "modz" are asthetic, more power would be stupid. I bet all y'all are just tingling inside to know what I'm up to. So here it is:

I'm Herculining the bike. Yep, gonna coat all the plastics/fiberglass with truck bed liner. Why? Because the bike is beat down, been dumped a few times and the fairings are pretty flayed. I figure the texture of Herculiner will hide some of the imperfections and it's tough as nails as a bonus.

I stared this process tonight, by yanking the front fairing and assorted ram-air bits. The following pics are of the that (mind you, this is just first coat, I plan on two or thee, depending on how the stuff layers up). I do know it's gonna stick, I got some on my hands and I CANNOT get it off. Tried acetone, xylene, ether, steel wool and gasoline. The Herculiner laughed and stuck like glue. Oh well, I'll have black hands for awhile.

"Oh Rhett, what have I told you about burning crosses..."
    *rubs hands for a sec*

So here's some pictures for the Highlights for Children set.

Hold on a second, that stuff has to brushed on?

    *queues up dueling banjos*

You sir, have just achieved supreme god-like hillbilly status. I bet you have made the Hatfield &McCoys so envious that they are making plans now to build a dual seater outhouse.

On a more serious note, I bet that stuff is going to be tough as hell. The only thing that I could think of that would be more bullet proof would be power coating, and you canít do that to the plastic parts. (as you would already know)

I'm done with the plastics and fiberglass. Got it all stitched back up and took some "glamor" shots.

Now looking at the bike I can see that the tank needs to be black as well. What I don't know is if it should be flat black, eggshell or gloss. Any suggestions are welcome.

It actually looks better then I thought it would to be honest.

I would go with a semi-gloss black for the tank. Or if you can afford or want to, I would powder coat the wheels red. Accent some of the smaller parts here and there red. Maybe the footpegs, their stays and the shift lever could be red.
