I've seen that a couple of times and it usually means that there is a problem with your internet connection. The 'log-in' isn't a true login inasmuch as it is a handshake to the Google earth server. I'd check any firewall settings that might be blocking Google earth first, then go from there...

Are you using a proxy server? This at work? If not..you should not have that checked. Same with "auto detect connection"...if no proxy server..I always uncheck those.

    Hello I have a Vigor 2700 ADSL modem/router
I had the exact same problem on all laptops at home (XP, VISTA linux etc)
I found out that the vigor has a security setting that allows you to block the non http traffic on port 80
    So That was the culprit!!!

ENABLE non http traffic on port 80 (that is how google servers work for Google Earth) and you are up and running
I attach an image just for the records.

You have such settings by default?
