    Post Cloverfield - No spoilers

Dear God that movie gives you motion sickness. Just got back from it. People were going to the bathroom left and right trying to deal with it.

Other than the motion sickness (I've read elsewhere as to why), is the movie good?

Yeah it's pretty good. They do a good job conveying the panic the characters felt.

Do you think it would have been a better movie if a typical camera job was done rather than have a character run around with it frantically?

    Thumbs down

It was crap. A camcorder movie may work for a horror flick but not for a sci-fi wannabe thriller. It was a terrible movie and fatiguing to say the least. The first 40 minutes of the movie was a yuppi (metro boy) party.

I was so frustrated and disappointed that I felt like I needed a palate cleanser. I wanted to immediately go home and watch South Korea's The Host.

Really crappy...should of left in the first 20 minutes and asked for a refund.

    badbadbad

In some ways it adds to the panic and the suspense because the camera moving around made it even harder to settle on what was terrorizing New York. It's kinda hard for me to condemn the camera because I do believe it was best served with it that way, but it would have been interesting to see it with normal camera work.

I'm not a big fan of it, but it did seem to work for this film regardless of my own criticism. By and large I thought the movie was pretty good.

well it would appear forums and blogs everywhere are giving this movie a thumbs down.. for the same reasons.. I believe I'll wait for it to come on HBO when I'm within walking distance to my bathroom.

Not a bad idea really. I really don't know how anyone wouldn't get dizzy watching the movie. It's an 1 hour and 24 minutes long and probably 1 hour and 14 minutes of that is with the camera spinning all around.

Actually, you what you mean is that those that are giving it a 'thumbs down' are giving it for the camera shake but to say 'everywhere' is far from the truth. You may need to venture beyond AOL movie reviews for more info....good thing NASCAR is starting again soon, eh?

Imdb and rotttentomatoes are giving it average scores.

I'm usually floating around on several forums just reading stuff...ran across alot of threads for the movie from those that saw it like this one. I'd say 80% are giving it bad reviews from the camera shake. I don't look at AOL movie reviews nor do I watch Nascar so not clue as to why your bring that up unless your implying something ..but hey why should this thread be any different from the rest the posts you do in the threads that I visit.

    from imdb.com ....8.3

Contains a minor spoiler, mostly irrelevant to the story From when I was in the car ride home with my friends, till my sister said shut up at my house, Cloverfield was all I could talk about. For a 'Godzilla' flick, this movie had real substance, and much realism to it. It starts pretty much at a party, which is not very original, but a good scene for good character development, and a few laughs. While I talked to my sister about the movie, saying 'you really felt for the characters', she just countered, 'all horror films do that.' But the truth is, not like Cloverfield. Mostly because, it tells the story in the complete 'eyes' of one of the witnesses to the destruction, like no other, except maybe Blair Witch, but Blair was bull. Blair Witch had a guy in a corner, a bloody heart, and the rest of the film was mindless, tasteless screaming in the dark. Cloverfield felt real. More over, you see the horror, not just hear it. My friends and I, who have seen many R-rated horror movies, could not compare any other film to Cloverfield that raised our heart rates so high. I almost wanted to scream or cry with the characters when a favorite died. And unlike I Am Legend, which i very much enjoyed, the monsters seemed real for CGI, as if the characters and Manhattan were completely remodeled to match the horrific creatures. Now, I actually went to this movie with very low expectations, you know, shaky camera angles, never really seeing the monster, not very horrific if it's PG-13. But boy was I wrong. The camera seemed to be no problem to me, in fact, it added to the suspense. You DO see the monster, and man, does it look ugly. And, honestly, if there were a few f-words, the movie could have gotten an R-rating. Anyhow, I'm glad it didn't. More money for J.J. Adrams and his magnificent crew. Bravo.

Here is a direct quote from someone that went to see it with the majority of the forum readers agreeing.. yeah looks like a HBO watch next year...maybe.

At the end of the movie it was all quiet in my theatre too, then I broke the silence by saying "Well, I want my money back". Most of the theatre agreed with me too. Ive never been to a movie (except Cloverfield) where most of the theatre disliked the movie haha.

And I can produce a 'quote' from another 'forum' making completely opposite statements. So what?
