Is the new in style thing to be pregnant and not married?

Im am by far not a conservative nor am i catholic, but come on. I understand that accidents happen and all that crap. But seriously, what kinda messege is that sending to girls. All their role models are either getting pregnant without being married, or getting married because they are pregnant. I even see it in my own family, 2 of my cousins younger then me just had kids in the last 3 years, neither one was married. I tell my boyfriend now, if he wants kids he better marry me FIRST. Its weird that doing things that way is currently 'backwards' of what seems like the norm these days.

    OK im done.

As long as the child is cared for by both parents and raised correctly, I could care less whether someone is married or not. Marriage is just a piece of paper nowadays and doesn't really mean much.

Like Comtrad said, it shouldn't make a difference. What you're speaking of sounds more like tradition than anything. It's not a necessity. Some people don't feel the need to get married, but it doesn't mean they love each other (or their children) any less than a married couple. Times change. /shrugs

My dear, when I was young, it was only whispered when an unwed female was pregnant. It was forbidden to openly talk about.
Times have certainly changed. Blame it on TV, entertainment, greed to have 2 fancy cars and let daycares raise the kids, whatever... Call me a chauvinist if you wish, however, taking the woman out of the “home” and putting her in the workplace started the downfall…
Don't expect it to get any better as daycares do not teach family values...

Forgive me for getting ready to say something controversial, but waiting until marriage to have children and also waiting to have sex until marriage does 2 things.
    1. It does tend to teach more family values
    2. Reduces the odds of receiving a STD. The more partners a person has the
    greater the risk.
This is meant as no disrespect to those who didn't take that path. I am merely stating something in general.

People will forget what you said... and people will forget what you did... but people will never forget how you made them feel.

Specifically I meant just waiting until marriage, but if marrying a nice, fluffy sheep is your thing don't let me stop you.

These two attitudes toward marriage are the current problem really.

    Pretty sad

does not mean much for the marriage part, but a whole lot if you try to get out of it.

No, it's really not. However if you would like to believe that, go right ahead.

I'm going to take Meggie and Roody's stance.

I believe a child excells by being raised in a 2 parent home. It shows and teaches them the values of commitment and love. It teaches them about compromise and getting things done as a team i.e. family.

The mother and father don't have to be married to be a family. The mother and father don't have to be married to live in the same house either.

i understand what your saying and i agree with you, unfortunautly thats not usually the case. If you believe marriage is just tradition, then it kind of takes the meaning out of it. Personally, i want my kids to know that their father and i loved eachother enough to get married before they were born, that they werent an accident and that they should do the same. This type of thing seems to run in families. Just like daughters of young mothers tend to be young mothers... I want my kids to want to get married before they start a family as well. I think this baby fad is like the tiny dog fad. They want something to play with, to show off.

I really feel bad for these kids, they will have all the money they want, lots of people wanting to take pictures of them, and will be lucky to be raised by even one of their parents.

That is completely true, but since when are we talking about celebrity children?
