    losing internet periodically

    hi all,
i have been facing this problem for a very long time now but for the life of me i can't understand or find a solution or prevention to it.

it happens on many of my computers at work, on random occasions running WindowsXP and it also happens at home on my Vista.

the problem is, "sometimes" i lose connectivity to the internet, msn cannot connect just like i was not connected to the internet, my browser cannot open any page at all, weird enough in the cmd prompt i can ping www.yahoo.com i can ping www.google.com

but all my applications can't see the internet, restarting my router does not help, only restarting the computer.
this can happen twice a day or once a week, there is no pattern that i can see or a relationship to any application or activity.

is this a known issue? does anyone experience anything like this? is there some way around it other than restarting the computer?

and yes i tried ipconfig /renew /release /flushdns, disable and enable the LAN connection and the windows firewall and all that good stuff.

Get the logs of Hijackthis on all your affected comps and find the common third party softwares and search Google to see if it/they are malware.

Probable cause of your problem is indicated in red:

    http://talkback.zdnet.com/5208-1035-...43894&start=-1

Unnecessary entries are indicated in yellow.

Check the logs of your other comps to see if they too have Akamai.

ok i've done that and then it happened again.

but this time i noticed something very weird.

it's like only my outgoing requests r blocked, here's what i mean if i'm connected to msn, i get notifications about people logging in or new e-mails coming to me, but if i try to talk to anyone i immediately get the "cannot be delivered to recipient" if i have a download task running in bitcommet or emule or whatever it keeps downloading as well.

it's like something decided to block the outgoing requests from my computer :S

    so weird :|

As you are running Vista, the fastest way to get things corrected is to backup all data, reformat the hard disk and re-install Vista, without Akamai.

no i don wanna do that.

plus, this is actually a fresh install, not even 1 month old.

i just installed kaspersky and ran a full scan, it found 2 w32 download trojans and removed them, i'll see if that had an effect.

I have not used Vista before. But from MS's marketing pitch, this should be the most secure OS. It should be immuned to trojans and viruses.
