Yes...pretty much most of the antivirus products out there now....are now also including definitions which look for ad/spyware.

    Some of the better ones.....
    Kaspersky
    NOD32
    BitDefender
    TrendMicro

Well I liked the free kaspersky that was with AOL until the stopped the support. Personally I would use AVG or antivir. But there are others here that are up more on windows protection that may offer other options.

Free....hmmm...none of the better antivirus programs are free (well, full function ones)....the best freebie out there IMO is Antivir. It's quite light, strong in detection of viruses...medium in ad/spyware. Sometimes have to kick it's update function ..and keep an eye on that.

AVG has fallen quite a bit in detection rates compared to others.

Have to turn to secondary apps for that...Spybot S&D is still good, keep it updated, each time you update it..re-immunize it. No system performance hit by default, only does blocking.

SuperAntiSpyware is free..and VERY good in detection/prevention/removal. Adds a wee performance hit.

SpywareBlaster is free, does blocking/protection for your web browser, not removal. Keep updating it manually, no performance hit.

    Not free:

    Kaspersky Internet Security
    NOD32
    BitDefender
    SpySweeper - anti spyware only

    Free:

    Antivir
    Comodo Firewall
    SUPERAnti-Spyware
    SpyBot S&D
    Ad-Aware
    AVG Anti-Spyware
    Windows Defender
    SpywareBlaster

You will pretty safe using Antivir av along with Comodo with it's HIPS. Then have Windows Defender set as real-time protection and use the others for on demand scans as needed, you can schedule SpyBot and Windows Defender to scan at regular intervals.
