Ahh, there we go, 3.25 TB of storage

Now resides in my server, 10 hard drives.

Spent today cleaning out my server, adding new fans, re-configuring drives, replaced my aging 530W Antec PSU with a brand new 1KW PSU, and added a bit more storage, 2 new 500 GB drives.

    I now have 2x 500 GB, 3x 400 GB, 1x 300 GB, 3x 250 GB, 1x 36 GB (OS).

I'm not happy about the small 250's and the one 300, I wish they were at least 400, but that's all I got for now. Down the road I want to upgrade of course, I really want about 8 or 10 1 TB drives, but that aint happening unless I win the lotto haha. A more affordable option with prices coming down are the 750's, I'd love 10 of those.

Yes, but you're going to need at least another 3.25 TBs to back all that stuff up...

    Good grief.....

I can back up my whole CD collection with less than 800 gigs! That's in FLAC files with front cover images in full size!

Haven't started archiving old VHS or 8mm film yet.

I just added up some stuff:

    Shows - 871.6 GB
    Movies - 208.6 GB
    Review - 210 GB
    Junk - 240 GB
    Anime - 466 GB
    Music - 206 GB
    Pr0n - 300 GB

That's not everything, but most of the big stuff, I need to organize, I'm sure to gain a lot of space back once I do that. My big concern is room to grow, and even with 3.25 TB total, I'm already using 2.5 TB of that, so honestly there isn't THAT much room to grow. The other concern is backing it all up somehow incase of hdd failure, if one hard drive goes i'm screwed and lose everything on that drive.

That is my biggest concern, I do not know how I am going to backup what I have. If I lose one drive what's on that drive is lost forever.

I'm thinking the only thing I can do that's affordable right now is 8 GB DVDs and some kind of application that can highly compress stuff for backup. HDVD or Bluray is out of the question right now, can't afford it. I was looking at 1TB NAS servers , but too expensive. WD has a 2 TB thing coming out, but still about $750, so not possible.

The best I can do right now is to try and keep the server (specifically the hdd's) as cool and dust free as possible. A cool hard drive is a happy hard drive.

It sounds like you're one of those people with a garage packed with stuff you'll never use or even know what is in there.

    No offense

A pack rat? Nope, I am not. Just a bit disorganized, but I definitely do not keep old stuff around and keep packing it in, I am known to throw stuff away and just buy new stuff. Case in point, my stand up fan got pretty dusty in its use over the last year, so I just threw it away and bought a new one. I like new stuff, I'm a new stuff kind of a person. I just have a lot of data, it is all relevant, it just adds up.
