External HDD interferes with broadband connection

    Hi All

I have been using a 2048/512 adsl connection without any real problems for some years.

A few days ago, I installed an AgeStar External Enclosure with a 120GB SATA HDD using a USB connection and since then my broadband connection will go OFF/ON every few minutes. I know it is because of the new HDD because disabling the HDD, the connections stays on. (I tried this out for several hours).

Any help and or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Place your HDD a few feet away from the modem and router.

Makes no difference. I put it more than six feet away from the modem/router and even used an old cable with surpressors at either ends - it still goes ON/OFF every few minutes when the HDD is connected. Switching the HDD off - no problems for hours/the whole day.

    Any other suggestiosn?

Then problem is probably in circuitry of the motherboard, between your Nic and your HDD connector. Try changing slots.
