So Most Chinese Peeps Look Alike & Have The Same Name Too?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070612...t_070612065246

In a country of around 1.3 billion people, about 85 percent share only 100 surnames, according to a nationwide survey conducted by the Ministry of Public Security in April and published in the China Daily newspaper on Tuesday.

The survey found 92 million people shared the surname Li, while 88 million were called Zhang. A further seven surnames -- including Chen, Zhou and Lin -- are held by at least 20 million Chinese.

Another report by the Chinese Academy of Sciences found at least 100,000 people share China's most popular name, Wang Tao.
Any Chinese-Americans called Wee Wang Johnson?

I remember when I was in JHS, one of our friends last name was Wang and we'd all call him Tiny

I don't think they all look alike, I can tell people apart.

Interesting, I didn't know they shared only 100 surnames, with a pop of 1 billion that could get pretty repetitive.

Now, Hank, touch your throat. That tube you feel is your trachea. Think of it as your handle. That thing your thumb is on is your carotid artery. Think of it as your button. I want you to grab the handle, push the button.

When I was in school in Macau, during assembly, they called out a guy to receive an award. The principal went, 'Would seh jing ji come up?'

Well, the name 'seh jing ji' sounds like ejaculation in Cantonese. Surprisingly, no one came up to get the award and people were all giggly.

I also had a friend with the last name 'jung' and their parents called him 'gok yan'. So his full name was 'jung gok yan' and it literally means, 'China man'

While I was living there, there was not much problems with confusing me with anyone else. There was like only one family in that city with our last name 'da Silva'. The only problem I encountered was when they have no idea how to spell my name or don't speak english at all. I had to make up a chinese name for convenience sakes. Just like how these chinese people have an english name.
