Question Have you ever been to a Drive-In?

Another thread made me think about this, but I was wondering how many of y'all ever been to a Drive-In.

There used to be tons of them around here but most of them are shopping malls and condos now. I can remember as far back as seeing Easy Riders and The Exorcist. I still can’t watch that damn movie The Exorcist, it still creeps the hell out of me for some reason, maybe because I was so young when I seen it. Movies like Jaws, Earthquake, The Towering Inferno, and Poseidon were big back in the day too.

I wish we still had a Drive-In around here. Around the end of the Drive-In days they used to transmit the audio on 91.5 FM. I can remember the owner bitching at me for having the stereo in my car TOO LOUD.

Great times at the Drive-In, too bad they are all gone around here.

    Hi RoundEye

It was affectionately referred to as the Finger Bowl when i was a teenager and it was the place to take a Gal on the weekend.

Mostly B Movies, but no one cared what was on the screen, it was the backseat action that was the entertainment.

Angora Sweaters and Poodle Skirts were big back then. Saddle Shoes topped it off, with Bobby Socks the final touch.

Well one night my Girlfriend and i were going to go to the drive-in and she wanted her girlfriend to tag along and me to find her a date.

Time was short so i got my pal John to come along. He worked in an auto body repair shop and came directly from work and hopped into the backseat with my GFs friend.

We were doing our thing and when intermission came the two girls headed for the snack bar to buy us some popcorn and pop and visited the washroom while their.

John and i where exchanging stories when all of a sudden my girlfriend shows up at the door laughing her ass off. She got in and could hardly talk, she was laughing so hard. We tried to get her to tell us what was so funny. Just then her friend appeared and there was no need for further questioning.

Her white angora sweater had 2 big hand prints covering her breasts. Apparently John had not taken the time to wash his hands after work.

I thought i'd pee myself i laughed so hard. The poor girl never, ever, lived that one down. I still laugh as i'm telling you.

My girlfriend finally told me what had happened. When they went to the washroom the lights hit them and Donna said she just broke up. Her friend was embarrassed to tears and tried to wash them off, but white angora does not lend itself well to that.

    A night to remember.

Just one of many memorable evenings at the Drive-in. The Midnights Specials used to be great. They'd run movies starting at Midnight and go till sunup. Crazy times those.

    ---

    regards

    minir

Ah, the things this generation will never know.

The drive-in was where one lost one's virginity. It was a holy place. Do not speak ill of it.

    The “Finger Bowl”.

Yeah they were great, parents could let the kids run around outside the car, teens could talk to each other in the front seat or talk with their hands in the backseat, if you smoked you could smoke whatever you decided to bring, not the highest quality sight and sound as in the theater, but it was just so much more fun of a night at the Drive-In.

If they had one around here I would go in a heartbeat.

One of the drive-in's out here is now a strip mall, the other is a vacant lot with a few old rusting out cars abandoned there after the tore everything out

When one of the drive-ins around here closed, I wanted to go and cut all the speakers off the poles and make FM radios or computer speakers out of them, and sell them.

I wish I would have now, those damn things are worth a small fortune.

One drive-in was next door to my high school, you could see the screens from the second floor. If they played movies during the day we would've never gotten any work done.

Wow!! The "finger bowl". That is pretty damn funny, minir.

We actually have a few of them within an hour or so. Granted, I live in BFE, Ohio so there is room. They are actually very busy on the weekends with high school and college kids going along with some families and so forth.

I'm sure they are still being used as "finger bowls" to this day.

The only thing wrong with this pic is the girl is not hitting back. And that's not me I'll be the first one throwing the first punch.
