Question D-Link DGL 4100 Gamefuel questions

I bought a D-Link DGL 4100 router recently and I need some help on getting the most out of it.

Basically I have cable internet coming from a modem which in hooked up to my 4100. My main computer (which is running Vista) is plugged into the 4100. Also hooked up to the router is a D-Link switch that the rest of my computers are connected to (5 to be exact).

I play some games, Counter Strike: Source is what I play mostly. I really want to get the lowest ping possible in CSS.

So my question is, how can I get the best performance out of my router (specifically for CSS) and make my main computer have the highest priority for bandwidth on my network?

I am new to the networking scene and all help is greatly appreciated.

(also I wasn't sure where to post this, please move if needed)

    Welcome!

There should be a section called gamersfuel or something that has options in it.

Thats all the QoS features, manual should have info on it.

EDIT since all the other stuff is connected on the switch you could just edit the gamefuel rules to limit the uplaod from the switch's IP.

well for starters make sure you have the most up to date firmware installed on the router. I'm using the DGL-4300 and its had two updates in the last year.

Otherwise just like YOS Said.. go to the advanced tab and get into the gamefuel settings and just make a rule for that one PC running your games. Its pretty easy to do just follow what it asks for then save.

oh and by the way.. the latest firmware for the DGL-4100 is 1.8 released 4/5/2007

Well unfortunately the manual didn't help me that much. It gave the functions of things but not how to actually do them.

Again I am really a noob here so I'll need fairly easy instructions.

Sava - I have downloaded the latest firmware. Is it possible for you to tell me how to set up a gamerule for this pc? Stuff such as the protocol, source and destination IP addresses have me confused.

Well I dont have the router but Under Gamefuel setup

    enable game fuel
in uplink speed enter what your uplaod is in kbps

and that should be good, maybe try checking dynamic to see which way runs better. If that doesnt work out you can set it manually I believe.

I have dynamic fragmentation disabled because I have an Xbox 360 and they recommend DF be turned off.

Also the upload speed is auto detected so that doesn't really help.
