    Naked Verizon DSL

    Hi

I am a former Verizon customer who a year ago transitioned to GWI because they offered "naked dsl" which would free me from my land line which i didnt need.

However, now due to routine service outages lasting always 8-9 hours a day, wish to return to Verizon.

Does Verizon offer a DSL package without the need for a land line ?

I am a cell user and do not wish to go back to paying for a land line for no other purpose than to secure DSL.

DSL comes in on phone lines....if you don't want a phone line, you'll need to look for an alternative broadband.

Cable internet is one...if you have TV. You need a coax cable into your house.

Since you have a cell phone...I'm assuming it's with Verizon, you can up your service to have evdo and use that to connect your computer. There are even some router that you can plug your Sierra card into as the WAN interface...and they'll share that broadband connection to a network just like a regular broadband router.

    Hi

I used to have land line when i was with verizon dsl, but gave it up when i went to GWI dsl. (cost savings over maintaining the hard wired phone)

Obviously, the house is still wired for phone service although i DONOT want a phone. GWI does not require me to have a phone and I like it that way.

My cell is not with GWI and is not part of this discussion.

So the orig question is still valid.

Does Verizon still require people who want their DSL service to maintain a land line phone service as well?

"Naked DSL" is really smoke and mirrors. You still need a physical line for true DSL. Yeah the smaller ISPs say "You don't have all the costs involved from the phone company of having a line and dial tone and phone and blah blah blah". It's just sales pitch.

But in reality..you're paying that other ISP nearly the same rates. A bare phone line with only local calling package on it from the local phone company is pretty much the same charge per month.

A cell phone with whoever...Verizon, Cingular, etc...I'm just giving an alternative means of connecting to the internet without any line at all....works well.

    Hi

My costs with naked GWI DSL is about 1/2 what it was with Verizon DSL and having to maintain a phone subscription.
