Internet Sharing with Switch 10/100M How to??

    Hey

i have 2 computers and cable internet connection, i bought a Switch 10/100 M with an uplink port now i want to connect internet to both the computers using this switch. What i have tried is to plug the cable (main connection) to uplink and connected one of cable to one computer and other end to the switch, I did the same for other computer but internet is sometimes working in one computer and not working in other computer. I'm using a straight end cabling for connecting to two computers. Am i doing something wrong? or what? can someone please help me out.

if you need more explanation let me know please.

When i connect the cables to switch and internet is working for one computer the light is blinking only for that computer (for which internet is working) and the light for other computer (for which internet is not working) is not blinking instead is just switched on.There is also no conflict of Ip's im using different ip's for both the computers.

It would be preferable to have a router (which has a built in switch) rather than just a switch.
Configure your Internet connection through the router's set up page (cable or dsl etc) and then plug your computers into any of ports 1-4 on the router.
Connect the router to your modem using the router's WAN port.

A router will provide a good hardware firewall, which is reason enough to go for one. A simple wired router can be purchased for under $20. A switch can not make the internet connection for you - a router can.
