    remote programs suggestions?

Besides remote desktop and Ultra VNC what other free remote in program is there I could use for a 3rd way into my server? If there are paid ones list those too I may as well look at them.

LogMeIn...gotta be careful what this co-exists with though...

    GoToMyPC..pay for
    PcAnywhere..pay for.
    Timbuktu...pay for
    CarbonCopy...pay for
    RAdmin....I believe payfor

Uhm...can't think of many more. Since XP/2K3 with Remote Desktop...don't really use any others...as nothing can beat the performance of remote desktop.

Careful about running too many remote access programs at once...really only need 1x back door. And remote desktop is so reliable...you'll find you don't need the backdoor.

On the same note.... YOSC I've always used UltraVNC and it works great, never even tried Remote Desktop. If is is much faster and better as you say (I know it is if you say it is) then I'm going to try it out but.... do you know of any good free VPN software? I found OpenVPN that looks good.

I've used OpenVPN....built into a lot of *nix distro routers.

You'll find keystrokes and response time of RD superior. It's really a lot more "like you're right there"...non of the pauses of the VNC flavors. Once you log into a PC for the first time..and about 30 seconds go by for a few things to "cache" over...it's buttery smooth. Plus it is more secure...VNC needs some plugins for better security, and has had some vulnerabilities. For across LAN support..who cares. But for a PC peeking outside a router for remote access..something I'd consider.

For PCs..a decent free VPN solution that is neutral to firewalls...Hamachi.

server is on site and rollin along smooth.. just last night with my net packetloss I got disconnected from RD and had to go back in...therefore making another session. I think I fixed the "missing" app problem lol since I made a new session but my question now is how can two sessions see each other's apps and programs running or lookin at the same desktop?

Have any of you guys done windows updates using remote desktop? Any bad experiences/problems of note?

works fine to me..sometimes it requires you to disconnect to install but once you reconnect you may have to do the reboot some ask for or you can just keep on going..
