    ..and they are worth every penny.

    NEW YORK - If the typical stay-at-home mother in the United States were paid for her work as a housekeeper, cook and psychologist among other roles, she would earn $138,095 a year, according to research released Wednesday.

    This reflected a 3 percent raise from last yearís $134,121, according to Salary.com Inc , Waltham, Massachusetts-based compensation experts.

    The 10 jobs listed as comprising a motherís work were housekeeper, cook, day care center teacher, laundry machine operator, van driver, facilities manager, janitor, computer operator, chief executive officer and psychologist, it said.

    The typical mother puts in a 92-hour work week, it said, working 40 hours at base pay and 52 hours overtime.

    A mother who holds full-time job outside the home would earn an additional $85,939 for the work she does at home, Salary.com.

    Last year she would have earned $85,876 for her at-home work, it said.

    Salary.com compiled the online responses of 26,000 stay-at-home mothers and 14,000 mothers who also work outside the home.

    its a 10 hr day @ 10$ an hr for 2 kids,> add 2.50 per kid over the age of 3



    well I look at it like this for me to put my kids in fulltime daycare it costs 1600.00 month for my wife to go to work as a hair dresser 14$ an hr her net is around 1800.00. That leaves us a plus 200$ however all the cooking, shopping laundry and cleaning is done after 6pm. the abilty to do the chores throught the day and spend valuable time with the kids is worth the 200$

    it's called " there is no way in hell I would have or could have stayed at home full time and done that stay-at-home thing with my kids" !!!! I will be the first one to admit I don't have the patients.

    i actually cook %50 if the time.

    my wife is always saying stuff like that (mowing etc..) is a mans job so i always tell her to cook more because it is a womans job
