    need to know good dialup speed programs/tweeks

    I hope I am in the right forum. Let me know if not.

    Have an old win98 gold. Use straight dialup via a local (Seattle, Washington) free dialup ISP. Of course dialup is slow, but I see (generally) there are ways to increase "connectivity" and general reference to speeding up dialup web connections.

    Web Patches - faster loading of Web Pages

    The following patch increases Web page loading speed, by doubling the number of possible concurrent open connections. For example, imagine a web page has 20 images and some text - in order for your browser to get all these files, it opens 2 or 4 concurrent connections, depending on the Web server. Increasing the number of open connections allows for faster retrieving of the data. Please note that the patch sets some values outside of the HTML specs. If you decide to install it, backup your Registry first. Changes will take effect after you reboot. Download the patch appropriate for your OS:

    It is part of the "SG TCP Optimizer" program.

    My Webpage (image/picture) loading speed is very slow. Is this a good place to start, or what other advice does anyone have?

    HOW TO - make your 56k dial-up modem faster!

    Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your modem, from the manufacturer & not Microsoft.

    Here are some tweaks that will help you maximize throughput as best possible, for your 56K modem.

    Download Cablenut & use the following settings:

    Open your registry (start -> run -> type regedit) and change the following registry entry:

    Export each registry setting before amending

    Add the parameter BufferMultiplier and give it a value of 400 hexidecimal which will make it 1024.

    Download TCPOptimizer and use the following settings:

    Under the settings tab select dial up and custom settings, in network adapter selection choose dial up adapter. Then use the following settings:

    MaxMTU - 1500
    TCP Receive Window - 8760
    MTU Discovery - Yes
    Black Hole Detect - No
    Selective ACKs - Yes
    Max Dup ACKs - 2
    Time to Live (TTL) - 128
    TCP 1323 Options - uncheck both boxes

    Other settings:
    Max Connections per Server - 4
    Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 8

    Then select Apply changes and reboot your computer.


    Go to Network Connections from the Control Panel – right click on your internet connection and select properties, uninstall QoS Packet Scheduler.

    Amend the following registry entries:

    delete the following entry

    add the following entry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\PriorityControl (if PriorityControl is not there, make the value) - on the right hand side right click and select new DWORD value, name it IrqXPriority (X = Irq assigned to your modem), then right click it and select modify and give
    it a decimal value of 1.

    This tweak will help web pages load faster, it has no real effect on download speeds, just helps your pc look up websites faster thereby speeding up
    how fast the page loads and making websurfing more enjoyable.

    Go to the registry entry and change the following settings:

    Class - 1
    DnsPriority - 1
    HostsPriority - 1
    LocalPriority - 1
    NetbtPriority - 1

    open your device manager
    open the modem properties
    in the Avanced Tab --> Extra initialization commands
    type this AT&FX

    Follow the steps:-
    Go to Desktop->My computer-(right click on)->Properties->then go HARDWARE tab->Device manager-> Now you see a window of Device manager.
    Then go to Ports->Communication Port(double click on it and Open).
    After open you can see a Communication Port properties.
    Go the Port Setting:----
    And now increase ur "Bits per second" to 128000.
    And "Flow control" change 2 Hardware.

    Apply n Restart ..
    See the Result Yourself ..
    How to improve your internat speed...?
    Microsoft reserves 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes like Windows Updates and interrogating your PC etc. Don't you want to get it back for your self? Here is the trick how to get 100% of your available bandwidth.
    Increase internet speed :ugeek:

    To get it back:
    Click Start then Run and type "gpedit.msc" without quotes.

    This opens the "group policy editor" and go to: "Local Computer Policy"

    Then "Computer Configuration" Then "Administrative Templates"

    Then select "Network" then "QOS Packet Scheduler"

    After that select "Limit Reservable Bandwidth".
    Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e." By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."
    So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20..!!

    QoS tweaking is described here as well:

    Note that it only applies if there is an application present that requests high priority/real time data. In such instances, yes, the OS reserves 20% of the bandwidth for that application while the socket is open.

    The 20% is not reserved at all times. High priority traffic is usually requested by VoIP and other time-sensitive data. I don't think that Windows Update and other MS "evil apps" use it.

    Just my 2c.
    Linux is user friendly, it's just picky about its friends...
