Lately I have upgraded my ISP speed to 16+ Mbits/sec so I have become curious about wifi speed in my home network. I was using a Linksys WRT54GR router (along with the built-in adapter Intel ProWireless 2200BG in a Toshiba M200 Tablet PC) and was able to get only 5.6 Mbits/sec standing 5 feet from the router (and 5.1 Mbits about 50 feet from the router).

So I went out and bought a Netgear WPN824v2 RangeMax. This doesn't help - same (basically) wireless speeds.

So next I disabled the Intel ProWireless 2200BG Adapter and inserted and configured a Linksys PCMCIA WPC54G Network card. Same speeds.

What's wrong? Does the Laptop somehow put brakes on the WiFi speed? Is there anyway to get closer to what the wired connection provides - usually around 19-20 mbits/sec.

Running XP Pro (updated) with 2 GB RAM.
