i thought it was so post to play hd dvd out of the box and the ps3 was to play blue-ray out of the box.

If MS had wanted to grab a bit of the spotlight, they might have package the initial shipment of these drives with either a game or movie.

I just bought mine today, and I must say that if you already have an XBOX 360, the XBOX 360 HD-DVD player is totally worth buying The price is affordable, set-up is effortless, the picture quality is absolutely breathtaking, and the extras that you get with it ie. the remote and the HD-DVD copy of King Kong make it all worth it Such a great deal. Kudos to Microsoft for making a fine product

    Great Product, 11/17/2006

Once you see this on your HDTV, you won't even want to watch standard DVD's anymore. The new bar is set and its now a matter of seeing if HD DVD or Blu Ray gain more support and titles. Either way, this product is the safest way to have a taste of the new HD format. And although it doesn't have the features of the Toshiba HD DVD players, and has a couple quirks, its faster and overall it works very well. Initial reviews put the picture quality on par with the Toshiba's at 3 times the cost, and trust me, component cables do the trick and really you don't need HDMI. Very pleased.

I picked up the HD-DVD drive yesterday with the fast and the furious Tokyo drift and king kong. The picture quality is awesome and with the fall update to Xbox Live that enabled new 1080p support for the 360, and the HD-DVD. It makes it the best HD-DVD player out right now. All we have to do now is wait for Microsoft to make an HDMI cable so we can watch movies in 1080p.

IT is awesome. Especailly on my TV. MY TV does the 1080i but it says it is on 1080p. But it is awesome. From what i hear it is more perferred than bluray. VERY Good price. My oppinion. If you have an HD tv get it it is the cheapest one on the market.GET IT

    Looks Great, 11/14/2006

Just picked it up tonight and it looks really good. Picked up MI3 and Pitch Black with it. Both HD versions are definetly a step up from their regular DVD versions.

    Excellent move for Microsoft, 11/14/2006

No it's not really essential but it is a quality product, with quality results and a lot less money that buying a stand alone HD DVD player right now. One of the major plus points to having this HD DVD drive separate is that it prevents additional stress on your overall gaming drive. Makes sense to me When you're gaming for hours on end, would you really want to be placing added wear and tear on the same optical drive. Awesome planning on Microsoft's part

    AMAZING, 11/8/2006

The quality of this HD-DVD player is incredible. I thought Blu-Ray was good... But HD-DVD is so much more clear and crisp. I was shocked to seee how fuzzy the Blu-Ray was when I saw it. GET HD-DVD its more reliable for the long term.

    Awesome product, awesome price, 11/7/2006

200 bucks for an HD-DVD drive Insanely low, especially this early on. The video quality is outperforming BluRay search the net for side-by-side comparisons if you don't believe me, and this add-on is an excellent device. It also acts as a USB hub, with two extra ports at the back for Live Vision and Wireless G for instance. As well as a clip-on, for the wireless G which is a nice addition.Pick it up

The 360 was never meant to play HD-DVD out of the box, as the drive inside the system is a standard DVD-ROM. Microsoft never said otherwise, so I'm not sure where you got your information from.

The PS3 does play BluRay out of the box.

Futureshop's site is either wrong, or they're doing their own promotion bundle to unload some more copies of the game.
