    hard drive cloning ??

i am trying to get my new 15K drive to be a copy of my older 10K drive, but after i ghost it over, it will not boot to the 15K drive, gives me an error of NTLDR is missing.

i have changed the boot order in the bios and changed drive letters in regedit, i did this a few weeks ago and it worked fine, am i missing something here ??

i did have a 3 GB partition on the new drive set for swap file, and the rest of the drive free, could that have been the problem ?

i haven't tried it with just useing the whole drive as a clone, maybe i should ?

Is that screenie after you cloned? The 15k drive appears still empty.

Booting from a CD to clone? Within the Ghost screens..you can see the 15k drive clearly?

i also tried a few recovery console comands to fix it before, but it still gave me the same error, of course i have no idea if i did them right, just what i found on google, like fixboot or boot /cfg or something like that, and fix /mrb or some junk.

well it worked, after i made the new drive a blank, follow the directions closely, because there are options to delete the old drives files or not, i choose not to untill i make sure this new drive is okay.

i had to reboot a few times after using regedit to change drive letters, but so far it seems to be okay.

i originally had a 2 GB partition for swap file and the rest empty on my new drive, but true image didn't like that, so i deleted both partitons and let it make a new one, read closely because it gives you a bunch of options.

I use them both...been using Acronis more because I haven't gotten an updated Ghost in a couple of versions...

Each year they seem to edge each other out in the writeups. One year one is faster, the next year..the other is faster with the new version. Back 'n forth.

I've honestly not had problems with either of them as far as reliability goes. They both function about the same.

I tried some incarnation of that a few months ago and didn't like it.

Nope XPsp2. I didn't seem to understand how it worked and was not going to take the time and try and learn it.

I made an image and spanned it across 5 cd's. Someday I'll have to update it or maybe I won't.
