    Benefit of a static ip

I currently have a high speed cable modem serivice that gives me a static ip address. They have offered me the same service, but with a dynamic ip. I was wondering if i take them up on there offer will my internet slow down, or become less reliable? I have a lot of comptuers in my home, and use bit torrent. I recently looked at my dlink router and saw it was on the same ip for the last 21 days. So will my quality degrade?

Static or dynamic IP is irrelevant of the amount of bandwidth.

The only thing it usually will impact, is if you're trying to run some services publically available, such as a mail server, web server, game server, VPN host, etc. But you can work around that with dynamic dns services.

If you are a private user and do not need a static IP address, you should keep your connection dynamic to minimise security headache - a chance for hackers to zero in on your connection. It is even good practice to power off your modem once a day or at most once in 2 days to obtain a new IP address.

Yeah other then internet browsing, bit torrent, sling box, and playing xbox games, i dont use it for vpn or running servers. So i will probably call them to change over.

    Thanks
