Online w/ wireless, plugging in cable to router for lan kills wireless internet

I'm using a linksys wireless adapter in my laptop to connect to the internet, however I have a normal router setup that has my xbox plugged into one of the slots. Now, whenever I plug a cable into the router and then into my laptops ethernet connection, my wireless internet dies. I have tried everythign I can think of but to no avail. I want to be able to use the wireless for the internet connection, and the lan to communicate with my xbox. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

You can't use a wireless and hard wired connection at the same time on the same computer.
